Health and the Economy: Lessons from the Pandemic in Economic Resilience

The Institute of Health Economics sponsored a plenary session at the recent Pacific Northwest Economic Region (PNWER) annual conference in Calgary on July 27th. The session was titled “Health & the Economy: Lessons from the Pandemic in Economic Resilience”. The panel was moderated by economist Dr. Vic Adamowicz from the University of Alberta. Ms. Andrea Brocklebank from the Beef Cattle Research Council and Mr. Andrew Gibbons from WestJet Airlines explored how their sectors addressed border closures, inventory management, and the ever-changing daily challenges of operating key industries in a pandemic. Ms. Noelle Becker from Alberta Labor and Immigration discussed the importance of adapting, revising, and incorporating what's been learned into the Alberta government's response to long-term emergencies like pandemics.
