CAN Health network and IHE partner to improve economic case for Canadian Health Tech solutions

System partners developing evidence-based business cases to accelerate adoption of high potential, home-grown health innovations

The CAN Health Network (Coordinated-Accessible-National) is partnering with the Institute of Health Economics (IHE) to ensure the Network’s companies can access the evidence they need to prove the value of their innovations, while giving health systems, the data and analysis to make informed purchasing decisions.

CAN Health and IHE have agreed to establish a mutual referral system for Canadian health tech companies to support the economic evaluation of promising solutions, while connecting companies to the Network for the consideration of evidence-informed adoption by Edges. IHE has developed a unique service offering to support health care companies with economic modelling and evidence development. This can be leveraged to define the health system investment case for innovative solutions through the use of clinical data, literature, and input from key experts.

At the IHE, we are focused on increasing value for money in the development and adoption of innovative solutions, and generating evidence that meet the needs of health system decision-makers,” said Dr. Chris McCabe, CEO of the IHE.  “Working with CAN Health Network, we hope to provide evidence that ensures technology adoption decisions are evidence-based, and reflect the best use of limited health system resources when introducing new promising solutions of value to patients.

“The addition of IHE’s expertise to CAN Health will be an invaluable asset to our projects throughout their lifecycle. As we work to drive procurement across Canada for homegrown innovations that solve pressing health care issues, the IHE’s economic modelling service is an excellent complement to the offerings the Network can provide to support our companies. This gives them key data to prove the effectiveness of their solutions, while providing our Edges with the evidence they need to purchase with confidence,” says Dr. Dante Morra, Chair and Lead, CAN Health Network.

The CAN Health Network  https://canhealthnetwork.ca/iheandcanhealth/  is a federally-funded integrated market which reduces barriers to procurement so health tech companies can quickly and easily bring their innovations to the health care sector. IHE’s economic modeling can serve as a key resource for decision-making within the Network’s Edges. In creating a quantified business case, and even further, an Evidence Development Plan, which uses real-world or trial data, companies can generate greater interest and reduce barriers for access to health systems wishing to make evidence-based purchases to solve the challenges they are facing.

The Institute of Health Economics is an independent, not-for-profit organization with key competencies in health economics, health technology assessment, and knowledge transfer/exchange. Its mission is to consistently provide relevant, timely and impactful evidence that supports informed health system policy and investment decisions by public and private partners.  IHE has broad linkages within academic, private, and public sectors on provincial, national, and international levels. This allows broad access to expertise, which amplifies the contribution of the organization via network retrieval and dissemination of evidence and information.
