Innovative Approaches for Pharmaceutical Management to be Explored in Public/Private Collaboration
The Institute of Health Economics has established the Health Technology Innovation Platform (HTIP): a three (3) year, $1.8 million collaboration supported by Boehringer Ingelheim, GlaxoSmithKline, and Roche Canada, which will explore new approaches for the assessment and adoption of innovative pharmaceuticals.
A new private/public collaboration is working to address the challenging issue of how to assess the value, pay for, and manage the real world use of innovative medicines. The Institute of Health Economics has launched the Health Technology Innovation Platform (HTIP), a multi-year research collaboration which will develop policy options and tools intended to support greater certainty and/ or reduce the risk, to payers, regulators and industry.
The three (3) year program of work is supported through funding from Boehringer Ingelheim, GlaxoSmithKline, and Roche Canada, with a Steering Committee that includes these organizations as well as provincial drug plans (AB, BC, ON), Health Canada, and the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH).
“In many cases, the traditional approaches for the assessment and adoption of innovative medicines and therapeutics are unable to deal with the evidentiary challenges that changes in regulatory culture have brought us. Just as science is progressing rapidly, so must the approaches we use to pull advances in biomedical knowledge from the bench to the bedside.” says Dr. Chris McCabe, CEO of the Institute of Health Economics. “We are pleased to have brought together public and private sector organizations to investigate and develop practical ways to support innovation adoption for the benefit of patients, while ensuring a fair return on investment for payors and developers of pharmaceuticals.”
