In October 2000, Ontario initiated the world's first large-scale universal influenza immunization program (UIIP) to provide free influenza vaccinations for the entire population 6 months of age or older. This report presents a summary of efforts to evaluate the effect of Ontario's UIIP on influenza vaccination rates and health outcomes (mortality, hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) use, and visits to doctors' offices). Information on methodology is included.
