Industry-Payor Agreements for Pharmaceuticals: Backgrounder for Roundtable
A National Roundtable Discussion on Innovative Approaches to Industry-Payor Agreements took place on April 3th, 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver in Vancouver, British Columbia in association with the annual meeting of the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH). This one-day invitational event engaged experts, industry leaders and senior decision makers from across Canada and internationally involved in product specific industry-payor agreements. The presentations and discussion sought to identify key issues, building blocks for success, knowledge gaps and potential areas for policy development.
This paper provides a typology of “innovative” industry-payor agreements, and focuses on examples of health outcomes-based approaches that are in place around the world and within Canada to explain the diversity of approaches currently being used. In addition, the paper provides information on the main barriers and facilitators that are identified in moving forward with “innovative” agreements.
