IHE Mazankowski* Award in Health Economics

(*The Right Honorable Don Mazankowski served as a minister of different portfolios in the Canadian government. He also served as IHE's first Board Chair and was awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence.)

IHE has established a prestigious award (a "Nobel Prize") in health economics.

The First Step - was taken in 2005 when IHE established a $20,000 Mazankowski* Award in Health Economics. This award was handed out in both 2006 and 2007. Eligibility was limited to IHE researchers.

The Second Step - the Board of IHE will increase the award to $50,000 in 2009. The aim is to name one award recipient every second year. Eligibility will be limited to health economists in Canada. The nomination and selection processes are currently being reviewed.

The Third Step - IHE will make efforts to increase the award substantially, and make it open to health economists world-wide. The steps for making this possible are currently under development.
